The Western Wordsmiths encourage youth to learn more about the American West and to try their hand at writing cowboy poetry, western prose, and western song lyrics. Members make visits to classrooms with information on history and writing, while modeling poetry, prose, and lyrics produced by the wordsmiths.  Their goal is to inspire a new generation of western writers and performers.

The International Western Music Association has a very active youth chapter for both musicians and poets. They are prominently showcased at the IWMA convention in Albuquerque every November. We encourage young people to join this enthusiastic group.
